Youth co-ordinator arrested
The Sinn Féin Youth co-ordinator in Dublin, Matt
Carthy, was wrongfully arrested last Thursday 19 March
under an alleged abuse of the Litter Pollution Act,
while fellow SFY member Frank O Laocha was verbally and
physically assaulted.
Although a Sinn Féin official later received a full
apology from the Gardaí for the incident, Carthy was
held for over an hour and had been informed that his
confiscated posters would be used in evidence against
him. He said: ``The Department of Justice should ensure
that this cycle of harassment finishes and young people
are permitted to work for Sinn Fein without hindrance.''
