Piobairi Chumann na Meirleach
Piobairi Chumann na Meirleach, the Felons Pipe Band, is
approaching its second year on the road and is
preparing for this year's Easter Commemoration in
Belfast. 1997 saw the band lead both the Easter parade
and the annual Bodenstown parade to the Wolfe Tone
Memorial. As well as taking part in numerous
commemorations and similar events, several pipers also
participated in the recent production of Binlids.
Thanks to the dedication of the band members and the
continued association with the Irish Republican Felons
it has been a hugely successful year. Thanks also to
those in the Republican community who have helped to
get Piobairi Chumann na Meirleach on the road, their
help with fund raising, musical tuition and general
support.
Given the importance of the 1798 commemorations
Piobairi plans to make the coming year even better and
aim to be the premier band of the Republican movement.
To this end the search goes on for new members, both
pipers and drummers. No musical experience is
necessary, but people must have dedication and
maturity. Anyone who is 18 and interested should come
along to practice on either a Sunday or Monday at the
Felons Club between 7 and 9pm.
