Transfers welcomed
SINN FEIN COUNCILLOR and spokesperson on prison issues Michael
Browne has welcomed the transfer of Irish prisoners Danny McNamee
and Liam McCotter to Maghaberry prison in County Antrim.
Describing the transfer as a ``welcome development'', Browne said
the move ``will go a long way toward easing the burden on their
families who for years have been forced to make the arduous and
expensive journey to England for prison visits''.
Browne reiterated the Sinn Féin call to the British government to
use the full mechanism of the transfer legislation to transfer
all Irish prisoners to jails near their homes.
